TESTIMONIALS

Robbie Fulks
GRAMMY NOMINATED SONGWRITER

Grant has been playing with me all over the US and Europe for the last 12 years. If anyone would know his musical and personal weak spots, it’d be me. So far, there aren’t any. He shows up for every job, whether it’s a big-bucks high-pressure recording session or a club set for 15 people, prepared to the gills, and with a warlike attitude of in-the-moment concentration — really, as if it were his name on the marquee or contract, not yours. His fat masculine tone, harmonic range, highly personal pitch-bending techniques, his showmanship and emotionality, all have made him the talk of audiences — and especially other musicians — wherever we’ve traveled.  Guitarists admire what he does but can’t figure out how he does it. I can’t, either. There’s hundreds of great electric guitarists out there (maybe more), and it’s hard to tell most of them from somebody else who works in the same style and with more or less the same tools. But Grant is his own man, with his own voice — he’s a deep and extraordinary player.

Grant Tye  is the whammy bar king!

He is no media darling – has no inflated ego, just talent & experience.

Grant Tye & I have worked together in a live & studio setting for more than twenty years.

He is a gifted guitar player with a unique voice.  Rarely has whammy bar technique been used so musically. This technique has resulted in many people using Grant’s standard guitar playing instead of a pedal steel player or lap steel. Close your eyes, listen, there is no difference.

Grant is equally comfortable in country, rock, blues, alternative, pop, & folk music. His authentic tones & phrasing make him perfect for eclectic recording sessions requiring influences from all these styles.

Grant is also a master with tone shaping & efx processing. All guitar/amp combinations & processing pedals are in his road cases and are used with creativity and taste.

Grant’s professionalism and sense of humor earn him return sessions every time. I have yet to see someone use him on a session -  just once. It just doesn’t happen.

Whether grant is playing live with Mavis Staples, Otis Clay, Robbie Fulks,  Sonia Dada, MIchael McDermott – or in the studio with Redd Volkhart & Robbie Fulks – Grant’s playing is always sympathetic to the song & dead on the money.... with chops to spare.
